Stepping Through Roadblocks
Everything in life has steps to it. It’s a process.
You can begin a project, and then run straight into a wall. Some things are expected, and others, complete surprises.
After college, when I took my first office job, I remember encountering so many road blocks during my daily tasks. Whether it was running into an issue I was not yet trained on, or the copier stopped working the morning of a huge presentation. Murphy’s Law, right?
I became so frustrated because I just felt so unprepared. I wanted to be efficient at all of my job duties, but having any issues with my tasks was not a part of my agenda. I continually told myself, “This is just not supposed to happen. I feel like I am wasting my time trying to figure this out”.
That mindset was a hindrance to me, because unexpected road blocks and mistakes are a part of the process. They are a part of life.
You can plan what you’re going to do in a day, but there’s no telling what might pop up along the way.
As I’ve grown, and gained more life experience, I have a different attitude.
Now I say: “Let’s face this. Let’s do it now. This is a normal part of the process of learning and figuring something out. I can deal with anything that comes my way and become a smarter version of myself by working through it proactively”.
I don’t allow anything to stop or hinder me anymore. When something unexpected happens, I accept it, move through it, and conquer what I must in order to accomplish my original goal.
On the other side, not only have I completed the task, but I am better equipped for the next time I need to face the same task.
