Best Staycation in San Diego - Coronado Island
So many times we take the city that we live in for granted. Being born and raised in San Diego, I’m so thankful that my parents have made it a point to appreciate America’s Finest City.
One summer in high school, my family did a staycation down on the Embarcadero. We rented jet skis and had the best time on the water!
This summer, we were blessed enough to staycation in Coronado. Coronado has the perfect small town feel and charm. If you’re in San Diego, I would highly recommend starting there for a staycation.
No matter where you are in the world, taking advantage of the beauty right in front of you can give you a new appreciation for where you live. Not only will you go back home refreshed, but by making a small twist on the lens by which you live your life, your vision is renewed.
Here are some of my Coronado favorites:
Activities:
Stand Up Paddle Boarding - Coronado Boat House was a great place to rent, as it was pretty much a straight shot to paddle board under the famous Coronado bridge. We were in the bay for two hours! I recommend calling them before showing up, as they can tell you the specials for the day and confirm if they have enough paddle boards available.
Concerts in the Park - mentioned in one of my recent posts.
Lamb’s Players Theatre - While concerts in the park end after the summer, Lamb’s Players is a phenomenal theater company that has shows year-around!
Watch the sunset - I have a few favorite sports to watch the sunset from Coronado. The sidewalk right outside the Hotel Del and in front of the ferry landing where you can see the skyline.
Go for a run - While it’s an obvious choice to run on the beach, I actually prefer running the neighborhoods! Every single house is different and it’s motivation to just keep hitting the pavement to see what architecture may come next. Also, I don’t think there is a safer place to run in San Diego.
Food & Drink:
Moo Time Ice Cream - I love a good peanut butter and chocolate combo. But if you’re trying to get the best bang for your buck, I was told the Crown Brownie can feed a family.
Nado Gelato - If you prefer gelato over ice cream, Nado Gelato is one of the highest rated gelato spots on the island.
Grab a beer at Danny’s Palm Bar & Grill - you might notice the ceiling first…..its rad! Generally this is an old Navy Seal Bar, so you might be able to get a story or two, or be completely left alone. Some don’t even come for the alcohol - rather the burger!
High Tide Bottle Shop & Kitchen - Best bang for your buck on the island to feed a large group of people! A 20” starts at $20. The buffalo chicken is to die for. And don’t forget to get a side of ranch... think of buttermilk ranch with an extra kick of flavor.
Il Fornaio - If you’re looking for a beautiful view, ambiance and delicious Italian food, this fulfills all of that.
As you can see this dress was perfect for a weekend such as this! Yumi Kim is the best one stop shop for bold floral dresses. Details included at the bottom of this post…
